Stephane Catalano was born in Versailles ( France) in 1960 to a French mother and Italian father. He spent his early childhood in Montreal ( Canada), then returned to live in Versailles.
At the age of 11, already attracted by two-color printing, he drew cartoon characters, landscape, animals and abstract graphics in Indian ink.
Then came his discovery of the chateau de Versailles, to which he was fortunate enough to have access on numerous occasions throughout his childhood and adolescence.
Impressed by the chateau and its grounds, Stephane Catalano was undoubtedly influenced by the architectural splendor, artistic richness, ubiquitous gilding, historical dimension and almost esoteric power of the world heritage site.
At the age of 14, he began studying cabinet making , and 3 years later worked for various craftsmen in the Versailles area, learning woodcarving, marquetry and antique furniture restoration.
A few years later, after traveling around the world, he settled in Spain, in the birthplace of Salvador Dali, to whom he had great artistic admiration.
He then began his first creations after learning the application of gold leaf in a company of ornamental gilders going back 7 generations.
It was a real revelation.
Back in Canada, more precisely in Quebec, Stephane Catalano, international contemporary artist, creates exceptional pieces.
Combining the artist blend of his Indian ink drawings and gold leaf application techniques, Stephane Catalano is a pioneer in this unique artistic style and concept.
